The nights of 13th and 14th January 1897, the Warren Hastings ran aground in Saint- Philippe.
In the year 1897, on 13th January, the Warren Hastings, a British ship to Mumbai transporting naval officers, women and their children, navigated with difficulty in the dark waters of the Indian Ocean. Captain Holland lead the sailors, but moved away from the desired route and directed the boat straight into the reefs.
At around 2am, the villagers of the peaceful district of Saint-Philippe heard a huge crash...
